One Bad Apple Ruins The Whole Bunch Sometimes

I’m angry .

I’m upset.

I’m … I don’t even know.

I took Lily for a walk this afternoon . We do this every afternoon after class . We walk the same way everyday . Passing the same people and same dogs ( usually) . Stopping for pets and wiggles , comments on her cuteness.

We walk down to the creek paths and follow a small path through the woods to a clearing. She anticpates the clearing coming up and gets even wigglier. At the clearing  if no one is present, I take her off the leash and we play fetch.

Today our walk was exactly the same as any other day . Except we didnt make it halfway down our street before a pitbull darted across the road straight to Lily . IT came from a yard full of drunks enjoying the nice weather.  A guy yelled that she was a nice dog , but he was running awfully quick. THe dog immediatly pinned Lily to the ground. Lily did nothing . Just laid there and let the other dog attack her. The guy acted quickly thank god and there were no injuries.

I start to walk away , with lily tightly affixed to my wrist , clinging to my legs. The guy says ” sorry about that ” and I reply, ” you should be. Put your dog on a leash “

I walk away and everyone of those drunk people come out and start yelling, swaring, threatening me.  I keep walking and thinking .

Sometimes I feel like all the bsl protests, rescues and advocacy in the world is a drop in the bucket  when theres a few bad owners that ruin it for everyone.

Protect yourself. Protect your dog. Protect your dogs rights.
